The fourth edition of the Gulf Forum for Strategic Planning opened this evening in Bahrain under the patronage of Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa.
The Gulf Forum for Strategic Planning is holding the three-day under the theme “Security Concerns”, in the presence of senior legal and security officials and experts.

Addressing the symposium, the minister thanked the participants, commending the dedicated efforts to elaborate an internal and GCC security doctrine. He outlined major future challenges and cited particularly intellectual extremism and sectarianism, calling for a future strategy that focuses on young generations. He described the future of young Bahraini people as a top priority for the ministry, stressing the importance of protecting them from extremism and sectarianism.

The minister affirmed resolve to overcome current challenges through a comprehensive security strategy that reinforces the future of Bahrain. He urged joint efforts to stave challenges, describing the 2014 legislative polls, which yielded an elected parliament, as evidence that Bahrain succeeded in turning the page and moving forward.

Lt-Gen Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa stressed Bahrain’s pride in the political strides and hailed the landmark reform project led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, expressing the hope that the symposium would yield key recommendations and proposals.

Gulf Forum for Strategic Planning Secretary-General Dr. Fahd Ibrahim Al-Shehabi thanked the minister for patronising the symposium, describing the scourge of terrorism as the result of extremism. Lt-Gen Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa honoured the keynote speakers, moderators and partners, stressing the crucial importance of the forum.
