Manama, (BNA) — Head of Special Investigation Unit (SIU) also Acting Attorney General, Mohammad Khaled Al-Hazza, , stated that the SIU has initiated investigations in 14 complaints received during the month of November 2014, three of which were allegations of torture, four of ill-treatment, two of the use of excessive force, and five complaints referred by the Secretariat of ombudsman, a complaint of allegations of torture and the remaining four of ill-treatment.

He added that the SIU, during last month, had interrogated 17 suspects of various cases. The SIU also heard statements of 12 victims and 21 witnesses, while the SIU coroner was assigned to investigate reasons behind injuries of nine complainants. The SIU coroner was also assigned to examine three complainants who had suffered unusual psychological signs. 

He elaborated that the SIU followed up the cases it had referred to the Fourth Criminal Court, including the Reform and Rehabilitation Center’s inmate’s death case and the injury cases of others as a result of torture. 

He said that the SIU has launched a Twitter account (SIU_BAH@) for posting SIU news and statements.
