Manama,  (BNA) – Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has praised the amendments issued by decree-law to Law of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) that come in line with the recommendations of the UN Committee on CEDAW which is consistent with Islamic law.

SCW stressed that the issuance of this decree-law comes to highlight the Kingdom of Bahrain’s keenness to implement its international obligations towards the application of international conventions on the preservation of women’s rights and safeguarding their dignity in conformity with Islamic law.

SCW commended the Royal Order No. 59 of 2014 on defining terms of appointment of Shura members and ensuring an appropriate representation of women at the same council.

SCW considered assigning a clause for women’s representation accentuates the importance of the role of Bahraini women under the Royal reform project.

SCW highlighted that six women to win seats in the recent parliamentary and municipal elections will be clearly reflected on the SCW implementation plans of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women and in achieving equal partnership between men and women toward building a sustainable competitive society.
