Manama, (BNA)Luxury hotels are to offer Bahrainis and residents, holders of smart cards, a 20% discount as part of efforts to increase the rate of room-occupancy. Assistant Undersecretary for Tourism Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al-Khalifa today met representatives of 55 five and four-star hotels who approved the promotion.

The initiative, “I Love my homeland”, aims at encouraging internal tourism, boost hospitality revenues and promote Bahrain as a tourism destination. Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al-Khalifa unveiled a second initiative which consists in launching a hospitality and event management BA.

The Ministry of Culture will endorse the project in partnership with Bahrain Polytechnic and Haaga-Helia University Of Applied Sciences (Helia), Finland’s largest business polytechnic school. Under the initiative, each hotel grants at least one Bahraini student a scholarship and guarantees him a job on his graduation.

A number of hotels have already agreed to sponsor 14 Bahraini students and employ them once they graduate, thus exceeding the initial number proposed by the ministry. The ministry will coordinate with parties in charge of training and labour market to finalise the programme and integrate Bahrainis in the hospitality sector.
