Manama, (BNA) – Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) has won a new global recognition for its success in the implementation of the wastewater treatment unit project, which represents a milestone within the pilot projects in the field of preservation of the environment.
BAPCO was given the Award of Excellence for the best industrial project in the field of water for the year 2014 at the award ceremony organized by Global Water Summit 2014 under the theme of (Water for Growth), which was recently held in Paris.

BAPCO’s Board Chairman, Acting Chief Executive, Engineer Adel Khalil Al-Moayyad, expressed pride of this high global recognition, adding the project comes within BAPCO’s keen interest in the field of preservation of the environment and to support the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts in this area in line with international standards.

BAPCO’s Deputy Chief Executive for Refining and Marketing, Engineer Ibrahim Talib, explained that the wastewater treatment unit was launched at a cost of $120 million to treat 4400 gallons / minute of wastewater at the refinery plant, which comes within BAPCO’s initiatives designed to protect the environment.

The award represents a pioneering global achievement at the environmental and technical level in the field of industrial water, and it is awarded annually in the presence of prominent industrial companies and institutions of the world.

BAPCO was also awarded the 2014 MEED Quality Award for sustainability projects at the level of the Kingdom of Bahrain and among the best GCC environmental projects.
