Manama,  (BNA)– His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa paid a visit to Muharraq today to inspect some services projects there. He voiced keenness to further boost the town’s infrastructure and ensure top-class facilities are provided, including hospitals, medical centres and educational establishments.

He directed to carry out more projects mainly in the health, housing and services fields, urging to speed up completion of Halat Abu Maher Medical Centre and outfit it with cutting-edge equipment. He also directed to fast-track the housing project in central Muharraq and hand it out to the beneficiaries as soon as possible. He urged to allocate more land plots in Muharraq for housing projects and instructed to ensure the new central suq is contemporary in its architectural design and has comprehensive amenities and services.

HRH the Prime Minister directed to conduct a feasibility study on transforming some facilities, which were previously allocated for services, into locations for housing projects and instructed more services centres are built in Muharraq due to the growing population there and to provide people with further facilities.

“Muharraq, with its historic value and deep-rooted families, is worthy of this care to bolster its prosperity and development,” he said, stressing keenness on visiting Muharraq from time to time to meet citizens, cater to their needs and follow up on projects there.

HRH the Premier visited Halat Abu Maher Medical Centre project and got updated on progress of work there. He was welcomed by Health Minister Sadaq Al Shehabi, Works Minister Essam Khalaf, Housing Minister Bassim Al Hamer, Muharraq Governor Salman bin Hindi, members of the Municipal Council and citizens.

He toured the centre’s facilities and departments and listened to a briefing by the Works Minister and Health Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Primary Care and Public Health Dr. Mariam Al Jalahma on the ongoing work there.

He voiced satisfaction at progress of work and directed to equip the state-of-the-art centre with the latest medical equipment in order to ensure it is ready for opening as scheduled and without any delay.

He underlined the government’s keenness to keep abreast of world-class medical services and international standards while broadening the scope of medical facilities in Bahrain to provide citizens with optimum services.

The Health Minister thanked HRH the Prime Minister for his inspection visit and valuable directives to follow up on services projects to boost citizens’ welfare nationwide. He said Halat Abu Maher Medical Centre is an landmark project that will provide medical services for many regions in Muharraq and help ease pressure on old facilities.

The three-storey building, he added, features various facilities including rooms for periodic and quick examination, 12 family clinics, a laboratory, patient categorisation rooms, treatment and short admission services, a pharmacy, an x-ray room, diabetes, dentistry, maternity and physiotherapy clinics, meeting halls, offices and stores.

The BD 5 million centre, he pointed out, will provide quality medical services by an estimated staff of 120 employees. The facility, he added, will be outfitted with medical equipment worth BD 1.5 million and operated with an estimated BD 3 million annual budget.

Then, HRH the Prime Minister visited central Muharraq housing project (bloc 207) and got updated on progress of work on the 114 housing units and flats. He lauded the project’s architectural designs and directed to fast-track distribution of the housing units after equipping them properly so as to meet citizens’ aspirations for decent housing.

“Catering to citizens’ housing needs is a top priority in the government’s strategy to promote welfare,” he said, stressing that the development march across Bahrain will go on unabated. “Nothing will deter us from achieving national welfare,” he pledged, urging all to do their utmost towards this goal and to maintain national security and stability.

He called on all Bahrainis to rally ranks in order to preserve hard-won gains, stressing that security and stability are a pre-requisite for progress and prosperity. He lauded the Housing Ministry’s efforts in carrying out projects nationwide, expressing appreciation of their exemplary designs.

HRH the Prime Minister also listened to an account detailing the Central Muharraq Suq revamp project and discussed with the municipal councillors the architectural designs which take into consideration modernity and heritage.

He directed the Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry to prepare an implementation scheme for the suq’s temporary building where traders will be moved until the new-look suq is completed according to set up standards.

He assured the owners of the shops that he will personally follow up on the facelift process to ensure fast implementation of the project which will embody Muharraq’s authenticity and rich heritage.

On his part, Muharraq Governor paid tribute to HRH the Premier for the visit which, he said, reflects keenness on reaching out to citizens’ needs by closely following up on projects benefiting them. He commended strong ties between the people in Muharraq and HRH the Premier, stressing that HRH the Prime Minister’s strategy to pay surprise field visits to assess ongoing projects in Muharraq stands witness of those solid bonds.
