Manama: Feb. 18 – (BNA): The Ministry of State for Telecommunications Affairs and the Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding exploration of possible creation of a new national establishment which shall assume responsibility for building and operation of national broadband network availing from existing infrastructures of Batelco network.

The MoU was signed by Minister of State for Telecommunications Affairs Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and Batelco Board of Directors Chairman Shaikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

Shaikh Fawaz expressed his appreciation of Batelco company and its constant readiness to put its capabilities and infrastructures at the disposal of the Kingdom.

The MoU aims to study the creation of a new national establishment to assume the responsibility for establishment, operation of integrated fiber-optic network and provision of fair services to all TRA-licensed operators. The new establishment is anticipated to boost the broadband services in the Kingdom in view of advanced technologies to be used in implementing this mammoth project.

Shaikh Hamad expressed his appreciation of constant cooperation between Batelco and government ministries and his delight at signing the MoU with the Ministry of State for Telecommunications Affairs aimed to provide the best and most modern services to the Kingdom and citizens. He added that this MoU opens new horizons of quality and speed of broadband services in the Kingdom which has attracted a lot of interest from organizations and individuals especially the young generation.
