UN Human Rights Council hails women’s status in Bahrain

Geneva, Feb10 (BNA)Bahrain has today reiterated its commitment to honour its international obligations, particularly the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Deputy Chairperson Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al-Khalifa voiced the stance as she met Baudelaire Ndong Ella, President of the Human Rights Council, Eight Cycle (2014) and Permanent Representative of Gabon to the United Nations Office in Geneva.

(SCW) Secretary-General Hala Al-Ansari also attended the meeting at the UN Palace of Nations (Palais des Nations) in Geneva. Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al-Khalifa congratulated Baudelaire Ndong Ella on his appointment as (HRC) President, affirming Bahrain’s keenness on implementing the (HRC) recommendations to enhance Bahraini women’s status in all fields.

Mr. Ella stressed the (HRC) resolve to exert all efforts to empower women and ensure their inalienable rights are respected all over the world. He commended the Government of Bahrain for its role in promoting women’s participation in development efforts and political life. He hailed Bahrain’s strides achieved so far to promote family stability and engage women in decision-marking and holding international positions.
