UNDESA delegation informed about Ministry of Works’ experience

Manama, Jan. 30. (BNA)– As part of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA)’s delegation’s visit to the kingdom to be informed about its e-government experience, the Ministry of Works reviewed its experience in the application of Information System strategic plan and the transition to electronic services.
Ministry of Works Information’s Technology Director, Engineer Hisham Al Sater delivered a presentation to the international delegation at e-Government Authority’s (eGA) premises in which he addressed the Ministry’s experience in the application of its strategy aiming at electronic shift and taking advantage of Information Technology in the implementation of its plans.

He said that the Ministry is keen on applying innovative plans for sustainable solutions to reduce pollution of the environment and carbon footprint to serve the main environmental objectives contained in the Economic Vision 2030, which takes into consideration the public health and safety from individuals, groups or general environment side.

To achieve this purpose, the Ministry has applied a number of electronic systems and applications in order to reduce the use of paper in communication and keeping and archiving data system such as electronic communication systems, save and archive documents, project management system, electronic follow-up system, human resources electronic system, default electronic servers and computers and the initiative of the electronic office.

He added that the Ministry of Works is working to achieve progress in the areas related to Information Technology in order to provide better services to the citizens, residents and businessmen and has embarked on providing easy and smooth e-services, noting that it has also launched in collaboration with eGA a services bouquet that can be accessed through the national portal Bahrain.bh or the Ministry’s website www.works.gov.bh, the services include sanitary complaints, Sewer Connection service, request for traffic signals maintenance and report roads defects.

He said that Information Technology administration at the Ministry of Works is developing a strategic plan for the Information System of the Ministry based on its the current and future needs in coordination with senior management and various other directorates, so as to ensure the compatibility of Information System in the Ministry and their applications, database and networks with local and international specifications and best practices and standards in this area, specially that it is working according to an integrated strategy plan keeping green environment in mind before implementing projects.
