Manama, Jan. 29. (BNA)– The National Institution for Human Rights(NIHR) organised a lecture about the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

It was delivered by the Legal Advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ibrahim Badawi to the members of the Board of Commissioners who will participate in the meeting to discuss the Kingdom of Bahrain’s third report before CEDAW committee, to be held at the United Nations Office in Geneva on February 11, 2014.

Dr. Badawi presented a detailed explanation of CEDAW in terms of form and content, and tackled Bahrain’s reservations on some of its provisions, outlined in Decree 5/2002 ratifying it.

He provided an overview of the work of CEDAW’s committee and the role and tasks assigned to it, starting from reviewing of periodic reports, providing concluding observations on national periodic reports and looking into individual complaints under the accompanying optional protocol.
